CBS News Editors Appear to Support Marijuana Legalization

What happened to editorial judgment? Guest columnists have been around forever, but does that mean an editor has to publish every piece of garbage submitted?

CBS News online headline: “Make Marijuana Legal”

What other conclusion can be drawn from one of today’s CBS News online headlines? What other connection can we make from the opinion piece that leads with: “Marijuana should never have been made illegal in the first place.”

Should we just give the news giant a pass for publishing a column that advocates weed so strongly?

Now, I know it’s politically correct to include pro-pothead opinion in normal discourse. To openly talk about the legalization of the hippie lettuce is cool…and everything. Heck, what’s wrong with a little medicinal spleef? Right?

However, I’m asking the same question Stephen Baldwin and Kevin McCullough asked on their radio show, “Why has the legalization of weed resurfaced to such a magnitude?”

Could it be….LIBERALS in power?

I don’t like to name-call, even if we are simply talking about the weed people, but let’s call our Mary Jane for what it really is…I mean, like they said in the nearly half-century old commerical, “Why do you think they call it dope?”

Now, you CBS editors who see nothing wrong with partaking in the bud, where are your journalistic skills and integrity? Lost in a haze of smoke and scattered potato chips?

You could have made it look as though you were simply throwing a bone to the weed people, instead you gave them a fatty headline…btw, did you see your URL tab tag? “Make Marijuana Legal – CBS News.”

Sorry, too late, you’ve already shown your true color…something along the line of Kona Gold.

_______________

ADD: Perhaps I should have toned down my sensationalism in writing this piece yesterday. I’ve noticed today that CBSNews.com ran an anti-weed piece by Stephen Baldwin and Kevin McCullough.

Common Sense Says, “No Thanks!”

However, the headline is not as clear and action orientated. (You weed people will get the “Sense” part). Nevertheless, to the CBS News editors credit…they ran the counterpoint piece! My apologies.

Here, here…for “America doesn’t want its pot… American potheads do!

George Washington went public with prayer

While President Barack Obama plans to commemorate the National Day of Prayer with private prayer and a public reading of the proclamation for the day, one president didn’t mince words when it came to the need for prayer….

Breeze: Friday Top Five

In my defense, I may be a day late, but I’m not a dollar short on this Friday feature…well, maybe sort of…in today’s bail-me-out psyche.
port-of-friday-harbor

Through Peter P’s “Rediscovering the Church” blog I found Kevin Martineau’s “Friday Top Five – What where your favorite posts from last week?” This “Shooting the Breeze” feature is a must read…and if so inclined, a very fruitful promising participation.

Here’s my quick recount of last week, in no particular order:

1. No better time than now to know where that Light can be found. Thanks, Yvette, for Light that Candle in a Dark Place found in your Fresh Wind Ministries blog.

2. A greater and deeper look at baptism. Should we always look at it from a “water” perspective? Two thumbs up for Brother Mark’s Baptised Into The Body of Christ!

3. Uplifting and thought provoking poetry can always be found at Versical’s Blog. Mike’s post Happiness is one I chose for this week…how true, how true!

4. There aren’t fitting words to describe my reaction to this video of an abortion survivor’s talk and message. “Wow!” is one of the responses I had and from many others who sent me a response back from my forward. The Life of Thomas is truly an excellent blog…and this particular post, Inspirational Video has already touched many hearts.

5. Oh, what the heck…here’s one of mine…after all, it IS Super Bowl weekend! Super Bowl Faithful Unashamed.

Have a blessed day…and please consider joining us on this Friday Top Five journey!

Shout it!

Merry Christmas from The Scrooge Report

Some people crank up their souped up stereo system in their car loud enough to make the cars next to them at a stop light vibrate.

I’ve been to a football game where the crowd was so loud after a particular play that the luxury box glass windows shook, and the noise was comparable to a sonic boom. In my time, I’ve seen grown women scream over the Beatles, adults pledge their allegiance to all things Star Wars, and most recently, people killing each other to be the first to get a “Christmas bargain” at a department store. All found to be acceptable and unoffensive behavior.

However, mention Jesus…suggest an afterschool Bible study, vote yes on Prop 8 (support for traditional marriage), call a parade or event, a Christmas Parade or Christmas Happening…and all heck breaks loose.

Enough!

As for me an my house, I will serve the Lord. It’s time to shout the Good News! …and not be concerned of the backlash. After all, sometimes the truth divides.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…” – John 1:14 There it is…Christmas in a nutshell…the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. You may not hear me shouting it right now…but, there you go, I’ve blogged it:

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Sincerely,
Alexander

Christmas Is a Time of Salvation

As I write this, the financial news seems to be getting worse and worse – layoffs from companies normally thought of as having deep pockets, unemployment rising, and retail sales declining every month.

And yet, as far as I can tell, Christmas is still on schedule. Why do I get the feeling that this Christmas, yes this Christmas, it is more important than ever to get to the root of what it really means to celebrate the birth of Jesus in a way that counts?

I pray we all find the answer to making this Christmas the most meaningful ever!

Blessings,
Alexander

This from the Purpose Driven Life Daily Devotional:

Christmas Is a Time of Salvation

By Rick Warren

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Luke 2:11-12 (NIV)

**** **** **** ****

Today in the town of David (that’s Bethlehem ) a Savior (there’s the salvation part) has been born to you (for you – a savior for YOU); he is Christ the Lord.

No doubt you’ve heard the phrase, “He was saved” or “She was saved,” but maybe you’ve wondered what that really means?

Let me give you a simple illustration. When my oldest child, Amy, was still young enough to be strapped into a car seat, she was with me as we were driving on a very, very hot day. She finally hung her head out the window, and being a three-and-a-half-year-old unable to get herself out of the car seat, she said, “Please, God! Get me out of this!”

Amy needed a savior! She couldn’t get out of her predicament by herself; she needed someone else to set her free. She needed someone to rescue her, to deliver her, to release her.

Maybe you’ve hit a point in your life when you felt the same way? Or, maybe you feel that way today? You simply want to hang your head out the window, and plead, “Oh, God. Get me out of this! Hello, God, I need your help here … please!”

What you’re hoping for is a savior. You’re hoping someone will somehow save you. The good news is that your hope is no longer an empty dream. God is actively engaged in a plan to save you. He is a God of hope, and it is a hope that will not disappoint.

God’s plan for your salvation is three-dimensional: You’re saved from something; you’re saved for something; and you’re saved by something.

What am I thankful for?

WordPress asks: What are you thankful for?

The peace that surpasses all understanding!

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Phil. 4:6,7

Have a great Thanksgiving weekend!

PS Thanks WordPress for a great blog home!!!

JFK Inaugural Speech: ‘From the Hand of God’

A great resource for not only specific prayer for our president and president-elect, but for finding the wise words of past U.S. presidents and government officials is The Presidential Prayer Team site. Whether you choose to pray by the recommendations of this online ministry or not, you’ll find a tremendous wealth of quotables here. You’ll also get a heads-up on daily and weekly itinerary for government officials.

I thought this quote found at The Presidential Prayer Team site was especially timely and encouraging.

We observe today not a victory of party, but a celebration of freedom – symbolizing an end, as well as a beginning – signifying renewal, as well as change. For I have sworn before you and Almighty God the same solemn oath our forebears prescribed nearly a century and three quarters ago.
john-f-kennedy

The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe – the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.

—John F. Kennedy, Inaugural Speech, January 20, 1961
