‘Progressives’ divisive, backward in DC rally racist claims

Progressives see progressivism as an attitude towards the world of politics that is broader than conservatism vs. liberalism, and as an attempt to break free from what they consider to be a false and divisive dichotomy. – Wikipedia

Many self-proclaimed progressives and liberals turned ugly in the afterglow of the rally against out-of-control government spending in Washington D.C. Sunday, calling those in attendance “racist.”

While crowd estimates and reports range from 60,000 to 1.5 million, the event was significant enough to garner heavy Internet coverage, including a flowing stream of posts on Twitter. Tagged #912DC, the subject became a Twitter trending topic for most of the day.

However, while those in attendance and bloggers following on Twitter posted messages reflecting joy, pride, and excitement about the event also known as the “912 Project,” a flow of racist charges and sophmoric name-calling was evident.

It was not only “progressive” bloggers playing the race card. In one segment on CNN, the newsroom and bottom screen graphic asked viewers, “RACIAL UNDERTONES? with the subhead, “Tea Party rallies.”

But, perhaps nowhere is the ugliness more evident than on Twitter.

… libs think that thinking is important. Conservs want slavery returned & civil rights eliminated. – JimPolandcom

And so it went and so it goes … progressives being not so “progressive” after all. In fact, many in the anti-conservatism crowd have fueled any existing racism by perpetuating what most of us have always despised or eliminated years ago: lumping an entire group of people in a hateful way.

The ongoing chatter between so-called progressives had one Twitter member come up with a new “dictionary” definition for the online combatants:

Racer: (rā’sər) n. One who makes false claims of racism in order avoid answering legitimate arguments.

Progressives and liberals have always made us well aware of the hypocricy often found in conservatives’ alleged claim to the “moral highground.” Now, maybe it’s time for those with liberal leanings to abandon prejudice and crawl out of their dark caves.

Went To a Joint Session of Congress and a Town Hall Meeting Breaks Out!

Sitting in front of the TV tonight, I thought I was watching President Barack Obama address a rare joint session of Congress about health care … but guess what … a townhall meeting broke out!

You lie!

The incident came directly after Obama said, “There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.”

South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson forgot he was not at a town hall meeting on health care and shouted, “You lie!”

Wilson’s outburst caused Obama to pause briefly before he went on with his speech. Overhead in the visitors’ gallery, first lady Michelle Obama shook her head from side to side, according to AP reports.

Wilson’s shout drew immediate condemnation from both sides of the aisle, ultimately leading him to apologize.

In the dark of the night, Van Jones resigns

While many Americans were already asleep and way past the prime time network and cable news, the word got out yesterday that Green Jobs Czar Van Jones took one for the “cause” and resigned.

Van Jones resigns

While grooming to be the official Kool-Aid distributor of the 2009 Acorn Games, Van Jones forgot that it’s all on YouTube … his calling President George W. Bush and Republicans an expletive, his 9/11 U.S. blame game, his whites-poisoning-minorities diatribe, his smirking and laughing at his own hate talk, and more … all caught on tape.

And then there was Glenn Beck and the blogs, Tweets, and Facebook friends who had enough. In one week of exposure to a communist in the White House … Americans had enough … and so did Van Jones.

Van Jones resignation letter:

“I am resigning my post at the Council on Environmental Quality, effective today.

On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me. They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide.

I have been inundated with calls – from across the political spectrum – urging me to “stay and fight.”

But I came here to fight for others, not for myself. I cannot in good conscience ask my colleagues to expend precious time and energy defending or explaining my past. We need all hands on deck, fighting for the future.

It has been a great honor to serve my country and my President in this capacity. I thank everyone who has offered support and encouragement. I am proud to have been able to make a contribution to the clean energy future. I will continue to do so, in the months and years ahead.”

Vicious smear campaign?

Perhaps it’s time for a reality check on the Van Jones issue … Van Jones retired because most Americans, and mostly the vocal ones, were fed up with a man who hates at least half of the country. No campaign needed … just simply truth exposed.

Highlights from Andrew Breitbart’s ‘No more apologies from Sotomayor’ opinion piece
Andrew Brietbart
Andrew Brietbart’s opinion column published in the Washington Times, Monday, June 1st will be the most talked about, e-mailed about, blogged about, tweeted about post of the new millennium…or at least this week!

Here’s some highlights…if you will…

The lead

With Barack Obama, many Americans had hoped to get a post-racial president. With Mr. Obama’s pick of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to replace David H. Souter on the Supreme Court, it looks less and less like they got one.

Just plain silly

As for the outrage du jour, the call for Sotomayor to apologize for making a racist comment in a 2001 speech is silly. She said what she meant, and she meant what she said: “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

Now class…now CLASS!

In today’s left-of-center culture, the “white male” – “the victim,” as it were – understands that what Judge Sotomayor said is the accepted liberal way of thinking. Identity politics (also known as political correctness, multiculturalism and cultural Marxism) is the foundation of the political left. It is the first, middle and last lesson taught today in Academia. It is the mainstream media’s rulebook.

Double standard

It is why Sotomayor and Obama are praiseworthy, and why Clarence Thomas, Condoleezza Rice, Alberto Gonzalez and Miguel Estrada are unacceptable members of their respective tribes.

Here come the judge!

Judge Sotomayor made the offending comment – yet now she is the victim. It’s amazing how effective political correctness can be.

Go to ‘No more apologies from Sotomayor‘ now! There’s many more from where these came from!

Washington Mall anyone?

Keyes: President Obama? Not So Much!

“Have people gone mad in this country?” – Alan Keyes

I wrote here last year that fighting an educated campaign was the only way to go against Barack Obama. The photos of “silly” grandma, Muslim conspiracy chat, piling on Michelle’s verbiage, and thinly veiled racism coming in viral emails were not only over the top, but I feel in part helped Obama win. There was even testimony of Republicans and conservatives turned off by so much of these political hack jobs that they voted for Obama. For the most part, it was an embarrassing time to be a conservative.

Now, and even before, we have Alan Keyes, who often operates below the radar, consistently calling out Obama as only Keyes can. Keyes is such an intellectual (in a positive way), that I often wish he would simply come down to earth and talk with a little more humility. However, he is right on in most cases.

Above is a recent interview with Keyes. Here’s what the Los Angeles Times’ Andrew Malcolm, writes in his blog about the taped interview:

…Keyes, who lost to Obama in the 2004 U.S. Senate race in Illinois that launched the new president’s national political career, calls Obama a communist and usurper and says he refuses to acknowledge the validity of Obama’s inauguration over lingering questions in the minds of many conspiracists about the 44th president’s birthplace.

The video contains comments by Keyes that are alarming. However, closing our eyes and covering our ears, simply falling lock step with Obama Nation would be a mistake. My take? Pray, don’t take part in personal attacks, and wisely oppose that which is not right. Use words if you must!

After all, Obama said in his victory speech, “I especially welcome listening to those with opposing views.”

Let’s hold him to that.

JFK Inaugural Speech: ‘From the Hand of God’

A great resource for not only specific prayer for our president and president-elect, but for finding the wise words of past U.S. presidents and government officials is The Presidential Prayer Team site. Whether you choose to pray by the recommendations of this online ministry or not, you’ll find a tremendous wealth of quotables here. You’ll also get a heads-up on daily and weekly itinerary for government officials.

I thought this quote found at The Presidential Prayer Team site was especially timely and encouraging.

We observe today not a victory of party, but a celebration of freedom – symbolizing an end, as well as a beginning – signifying renewal, as well as change. For I have sworn before you and Almighty God the same solemn oath our forebears prescribed nearly a century and three quarters ago.
john-f-kennedy

The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe – the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.

—John F. Kennedy, Inaugural Speech, January 20, 1961
