Eyeing the World With a Bright Light

Use Words If You Must

When you talk, do not say harmful things, but say what people need—words that will help others become stronger. - Ephesians 4:29

Sticks and stones can break my bones, but names will never hurt me! It’s just a childhood chant, but although we can put up a good front about hurtful words not hurting, the truth is they can be damaging at any age…

Photojournalists Capture Distorted Bush

In my lifetime I have never seen a U.S. president more ridiculed…or even more hated. Bush-bashing has become a full-time occupation for some. Take Reuters, for example. The photos on this page come from just one day…all from the liberal-slanted news service. These web-published photos of President George W. Bush capture him when his face is most distorted by expression.

Imagine, if you will, that you are a photographer with Reuters. The news service is decidedly anti-U.S. on most occasions. Give me three story headlines about the U.S. from Reuters and three from Associated Press and I will tell you 99.9 percent of the time, which ones are from Reuters. It’s easy. The Reuters headlines (and stories) have a negative U.S. slant…oh, I’d say… 99.9 percent of the time.

Getting back to being a photag for Reuters. So, your assignment is to shoot Bush. With a Reuters mindset, guess which shot of Bush you are looking for. Yes, that’s right, the photo that makes him appear the most foolish.

Do you have any doubts? Take a look at these photos again…I’ve seen the likes of these not just today, but for as long as Bush has been president.

For Bush-bashing photographers, the “money shot” is the one catching Bush with the silliest expression. Has any other president suffered as much?

Go ahead, Reuters. Keep on doing what you are doing…and eventually you’ll get what you are doing.

Before You Get Engaged

More than half of all couples who become engaged this year will never make it to the altar.

Let’s say you’ve done the dating thing, but now it’s time for some tough decisions. Is the one you’ve been in la-la land with for awhile now the one?

In Search of Great White…off San Diego?

A triathlete swimmer was killed Friday morning in a gruesome shark attack at a San Diego County beach. A marine expert said the wounds appeared to be from a great white shark, an attack he described as “practically unprecedented” in the area. Several beaches north and south of Solano Beach, where the attack took place 150 yards out, are closed. Lifeguard and Coast Guards services are searching for what is suspected of being a shark that’s 12-17 feet long. (photo: Union-Tribune)

Fixing System Overload

yoke: a wooden bar or frame by which two draft animals (as oxen) are joined at the heads or necks for working together.

Do you feel overwhelmed at times? How about overloaded? I do. I’m in the middle of making some tough, life-changing decisions. Career choices, relationship commitments, geographical moves…all these kinds of things that we face in life.

Bible Distribution Ruled ‘Religious Activity’

Judge Orders La. School District to Stop Bible Giveaways

CHURCH AND STATE

This from Associated Press:

NEW ORLEANS — A federal judge ordered a public school system to stop allowing in-school Bible giveaways, saying the practice violates the First Amendment separation of church and state.

“Distribution of Bibles is a religious activity without a secular purpose” and amounts to school board promotion of Christianity, U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier ruled in a case brought by the American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana against the Tangipahoa Parish School Board.

As requested by both sides, Barbier made a summary judgment based only on the written briefs — something judges may do only if the law is absolutely clear.

Defense attorney Christopher M. Moody said late Tuesday that the school board decided to appeal the ruling to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal.

“We think our chances on appeal are very good,” he said.

When Party Balloons are Not a Good Idea

Sad, but true - hopes fade for finding balloonist priest in Brazil

This from Associated Press:

Photo released by the Brazilian website UOL, shows Catholic priest Adelir Antonio de Carli, 42, flying on bottom of a cluster of brightly colored party balloons in Paranagua, Brazil, April 20, 2008. Rescuers reached the balloons floating in the ocean off Brazil’s coast Tuesday, but did not find the priest who had been using them in a bid to set a flight record and raise funds for his parish.

Real Agent of Change

I looked at my friend standing next to me and said, “How did I get here? How did I get from being where I was to here, standing with 500 guys singing worship songs on a Friday night? It’s like I’ve been transported from one planet to another.”

I can say, “it’s time for a change,” until I am blue in the face, but chances are that merely repeating those words over and over again will not bring about change.

Bozell: Ben Stein Vs. Sputtering Atheists

War on Ben…Continued

Here’s one of the best opinion pieces I’ve read on Ben Stein’s ‘Expelled.’

This from L. Brent Bozell III:

It is a reality of PC liberalism: There is only one credible side to an issue, and any dissent is not only rejected, it is scorned. Global warming. Gay “rights.” Abortion “rights.” On these and so many other issues there is enlightenment, and then there is the Idiotic Other Side.

Bozell is the president of the Media Research Center. Here’s one more nugget. Be sure to click on the link below to read the whole piece.

Everyone should take the opportunity to see “Expelled” — if nothing else, as a bracing antidote to the atheism-friendly culture of PC liberalism. But it’s far more than that. It’s a spotlight on the arrogance of this movement and its leaders, a spotlight on the choking intolerance of academia, and a spotlight on the ignorance of so many who say so much, yet know so very little.

Read Genesis: Intelligence Allowed

I’m a bit exhausted from “Ben Wars” and “The Militarized ID Zone.”
I’m taking time out long enough to get back to the basics.

Hope you have time this weekend to catch Ben Stein’s ‘Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed.’ With all this “intelligent” debate I thought maybe it’s time to take a look at some scripture. Ah, yes! Remember our manual?!
