CNN’s Schneider: Huckabee’s the ‘One Who Made Sense’ in Debate

This from Team Huckabee:

What did you think of tonight’s debate?

CNN Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider: “Huckabee, I think, stood out in this debate as the one who made sense, talked as ordinary people do, and rose above politics.

I think the one who really helped himself was Huckabee.

All in all: Huckabee gained ground, McCain probably lost ground, and Romney didn’t help or hurt himself – although he did effectively defend himself. McCain sounded petty – and that’s not the McCain voters know and like.

But to the extent that Huckabee may have made any gains from his performance, Romney’s got bigger worries out of tonight than the Arizona senator.”

Tribal Madness

roadblock in Kisumu, Kenya
A Kenyan man sits in the cab of a destroyed truck used as a makeshift roadblock while a tire burns on the roof, as he and others enforce the roadblock in Kisumu, Kenya, Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008. The town of Kisumu is now almost completely ethnically cleansed of Kikuyus, and mobs armed with makeshift weapons erect burning roadblocks and search for the few Kikuyu targets remaining. Your Next Encounter With God

Experiencing God - Tuesday, January 29, 2008

Blackaby: Day by Day

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the LORD will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.” (Exodus 19:10-11)

Meeting with God requires preparation. God is awesome and perfectly holy. Barging into His presence unprepared is an affront. When the children of Israel were to meet with Him, God commanded them first to take two full days to prepare. Once the people were ready, however, God spoke to them with thunder and lightning, with fire and smoke and the sound of loud trumpets (Exod. 19:16–25). It was through this encounter that God revealed such marvelous truths as the Ten Commandments, establishing the standard by which God expected His people to live.

You cannot spend day after day in the world without its affecting your mind and will and heart. It doesn’t take long to become disoriented to the ways of God. The world has a dulling effect on your spiritual sensibilities. God established the Sabbath so His people could take an entire day to refocus on Him and His will for them after spending six days in the world.

How do you prepare for your times of worship? What fills your mind the night before? Often the last thing you put into your mind at night is still on your mind the next morning. Genuine worship requires spiritual preparation. Your experiences of worship reflect your spiritual preparation. Prepare yourself now for your next encounter with God.

Today, right now for one person in Baghdad…

“Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.’” -Luke19:9

Prayer: Lord, Your ways are so much higher than our ways. You are a God of righteousness and justice, and yet You abound in loving-kindness and mercy. You seek us out when we are lost, and bring us home to You by the sacrifice of Your only son. You alone are worthy of all glory, honor, and praise.

Father, through Jesus Your son, You purchased salvation and freedom for every man, woman, and child. boy in Iraqi crowdThe ruler of this world no longer has legal claim to the souls of men. I come before You and I single out one person in Baghdad to receive salvation in Jesus today. I confront the claims of the devil over this life, and challenge him with the claims of Christ.

I wash away every accusation the enemy brings before Your throne with the precious blood of Jesus. I bind the demonic influence that would hold them back from receiving their Savior. I declare Your word over this person, “Today salvation has come to this house.” Let Your love and light flood their soul, and sweep them up into Your glorious presence. May they love You and serve You all the days of their life. In Jesus name, amen.

This prayer brought to you by Baghdad Prayer Patrol.

What if Baghdad was a city of peace?

Lawyer as Creepy as Alleged Serial Wife Killer Client

Brodsky’s suggested “Win a Date with Drew” radio contest takes the lawyer blunder top honor

Joel Brodsky
“If she’s entitled to be out there with another man, he’s entitled to have some enjoyment in his life, too.” - Attorney Joel Brodsky

Worst defense attorney move ever just may well be the one made by the lawyer for alleged serial wife killer, Drew Peterson. Attorney Joel Brodsky and Peterson called WJMK-FM morning show host Steve Dahl and proposed the “Win a Date with Drew” game earlier this week.

Peterson, as you may recall, is suspected in the disappearance of his fourth wife and has caused another look at the bathtub “accidental death” drowning death of his third wife.

Nevermind that Peterson shows zero concern for the disappearance of Stacy Peterson, whose case police call a possible homicide. Forget that Peterson has toyed with the media spotlight ever since the 23-year-old mother of his two children has been missing, and simply saying she ran off with another man. What kind of lawyer would defend this creep?

I’ll tell you what kind. The kind that turns out to be just as creepy as his client.

This from NewsSunOnline.com:

Hours after radio host Steve Dahl agreed to the suggestion by Joel Brodsky, the attorney for former Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson, WJMK-FM officials said the game would not take place.

“Steve never intended on doing this promotion or any promotion that would put his listeners in harm’s way,” station vice president/general manager Peter Bowen said in a prepared statement. “The dating game idea was conceived by Peterson and Brodsky, not by Steve Dahl or anyone else at the radio station.”

OK. So radio host Steve Dahl is a little creepy, too. But This Week’s Top Scrooge goes to Joel Brodsky.

It’s his (alleged) murder and he’ll play as he want to

Brodsky defended his client’s planned participation in the radio show, saying that Peterson didn’t do anything wrong and that he believes his wife just ran off with someone else.

“If she’s entitled to be out there with another man, he’s entitled to have some enjoyment in his life, too,” Brodsky said.

Celebrity and creep defender chimes in

“It is still the mother of your children, and she’s missing,” defense attorney Mark Geragos said. “Besides being a bad idea for the criminal case, it’s in incredibly poor taste.”

Last add

Daniel Bibb, a private attorney who handled high-profile cases when he was a prosecutor in New York, also couldn’t believe that Peterson was willing to participate in the competition.

“If I’m a prosecutor I’m salivating now. If I’m his attorney, I’m ready to commit suicide. I’m ready to quit,” Bibb said.

Quit indeed…something Brodsky probably has no gumption to do…he’s too creepy.

Huckabee on Thompson’s Exit

Guest blogger Mike Huckabee has this to say about Fred Thompson’s departure from the presidential race yesterday.

From MikeHuckabee.com:

Today, Senator Fred Thompson announced that he will no longer seek the Republican nomination for President. I wish Fred the best.

Fred’s decision, along with my friend Congressman Duncan Hunter’s departure from the race, narrows the presidential field. I want to thank these fine men for their contributions to the debate. Our Party, and our nation, depends upon the patriotism and dedication of men and women who get involved in the political process.

I commend Fred and Duncan for their focus on America’s role in the world. I share their absolute conviction that the first responsibility of government is to protect the American people. Our country must prevail in our fight against radical Islamics who want to destroy us.

As a pro-life, pro-lower tax conservative Republican, who believes in the Second amendment, I believe that one of the greatest ongoing threats to our constitutional republic is the politicization of the federal judiciary. The role of a judge is to interpret the law, not to legislate from the bench; as president, I will only appoint men and women who share this view.

As we move forward, I’d like to ask Fred’s supporters, and Duncan’s, to join our campaign. As a true authentic conservative, I have a vision to bring hope, opportunity and prosperity to all Americans, and I welcome their support.

Please share this blog post with your friends and family that are Duncan and Fred supporters.

Charlie Wilson’s War Unspun

Michael Johns: Charlie Wilson’s War Was Really America’s War

Former government official and current policy analyst Michael Johns writes that Charlie Wilson’s War is an important film and has quite a different take than many believe about our past involvment in Afghanistan - either through viewing the film or knowing the history of the conflict. He writes, “…there may be no more outrageously innaccurate thesis held than the one that suggests that U.S. support for the mujahideen during the Reagan years somehow benifited today’s al-Qaeda.”

This excerpt from Michael Johns’ post:

As the film correctly depicts, Wilson experienced surprising success in his somewhat rogue effort to substantially increase covert CIA-channeled U.S. aid to the mujahideen, and the results were ultimately nothing short of remarkable, with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan turning into Moscow’s Vietnam. The mujahideen proved hugely heroic fighters. With the aid of U.S.-supplied Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, Soviet MIG and other fighter jets were routinely shot from the sky. Charlie Wilson’s War tells this story and, in so doing, provides a fairly new and important context on what was undeniably one of the single greatest contributing factors to the ultimate collapse of global communism. Afghanistan, quite simply, proved for the first time that, with determination and support, the Soviet Union’s conquests were reversible. The global significance of this message surely ranks among the most important of the 20th century.

Study shows NY Times journalists more likely to lie

Bloggers show journalistic integrity - call out New York Times on “vets kill in America” story in a series

The Scrooge Report:

Across America, Dangerous Lies From a New York Newsroom

Town by town across the country, headlines have been telling similar stories. Miami: “Family Blames Times After Son Cheats On Exam.” Irvine, Calif.: “Ex-Reporter Charged With Tax Evasion Testifies About Newsroom Stress.” Portland: “Ex N.Y. Times Editor Suspected in Two Loan Frauds, Credit Card Ring.”

Individually, these are stories of local crimes, gut-wrenching postscripts to the Times newsroom for the journalists, their victims and their communities. Taken together, they paint the patchwork picture of a quiet phenomenon, tracing a cross-country trail of cold lies and cheating hearts. …more

Power Line:

Crazed Veterans Spark Nationwide Crime Wave

It’s bad enough that the New York Times smears our military personnel when they are serving overseas. Can’t they at least leave them alone once they return home? …more

Winds of Change:

The Media Does it Again

But as usual, I keep asking the simple question - well, what does it mean? How do these 121 murderers compare with the base rate of murderers in the population? …more

Pajamas Media:

The New York Times Hits Yet Veterans Again

Bruce Kesler of the Democracy Project was among the first to note that despite finding the time to pen 6,253 words in this first article of the series, “the New York Times could not find words to put the 121 cases of physical violence by vets in full perspective,” by providing the context of how these deaths measure up against the number of deaths attributed to similar civilian demographics. …more

NowPublic - PEP:

Prostituting for Politics: The New York Times Lies in Smearing Veterans as Crazed Killers

Interestingly enough, the New York Times also included automobile deaths in its tally of deaths caused by military veterans of Middle East wars. After fielding an enormous “investigative” effort to smear veterans with the “whacko murderers” label, the New York Times forgot some important facts: other people have access to crime statistics, returning military numbers, and know how to mash the numbers. …more

Bylines of Brutality

As Casualties Mount, Some Question The Emotional Stability of Media Vets

An Iowahawk Special Investigative Report
With Statistical Guidance from the New York Times

A Denver newspaper columnist is arrested for stalking a story subject. In Cincinnati, a television reporter is arrested on charges of child molestation. A North Carolina newspaper reporter is arrested for harassing a local woman. A drunken Chicago Sun-Times columnist and editorial board member is arrested for wife beating. A Baltimore newspaper editor is arrested for threatening neighbors with a shotgun. In Florida, one TV reporter is arrested for DUI, while another is charged with carrying a gun into a high school. A Philadelphia news anchorwoman goes on a violent drunken rampage, assaulting a police officer. In England, a newspaper columnist is arrested for killing her elderly aunt.

Unrelated incidents, or mounting evidence of that America’s newsrooms have become a breeding ground for murderous, drunk, gun-wielding child molesters? Answers are elusive, but the ever-increasing toll of violent crimes committed by journalists has led some experts to warn that without programs for intensive mental health care, the nation faces a potential bloodbath at the hands of psychopathic media vets.

“These people could snap at any minute,” says James Treacher of the Treacher Institute for Journalist Studies. “We need to get them the help and medication they need before it’s too late.” …more
